Centralized File Control for Creative Pros: Adobe Basket

Adobe Basket is a conceptual desktop application designed to address the challenges faced by users of Adobe’s creative cloud service. The application aims to simplify and enhance the management of cloud-based files, making it easier for users to share, collaborate, and organize their projects in the Adobe ecosystem. By creating a dedicated app for file-sharing and collaboration, Adobe Basket provides a streamlined solution, allowing users to manage their files without needing to interact with each Adobe program separately.

This solution was built based on extensive user research and feedback, identifying pain points related to the complexity and redundancy of Adobe's cloud services. Adobe Basket is designed to deliver an intuitive, centralized hub for all creative files, optimizing both the workflow and experience for Adobe users.

Adobe, Adobe, Adobe..

Adobe Basket operates as an independent cloud file management system within the Adobe ecosystem. It allows users to view, organize, and manage all their creative files across different Adobe programs—such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and XD—within a single interface. Users can drag and drop files into the app, search for specific projects, and categorize files based on dates or file types.

One of the main features of Adobe Basket is its ability to provide collaborative functionality. Users can easily share files with others, invite collaborators, and work together on projects in real-time. The app also allows for version control, ensuring that different versions of a project can be accessed and managed efficiently. By providing a visual, easy-to-navigate interface, Adobe Basket streamlines the creative process, enabling teams to focus more on creation and less on administrative tasks.

The primary purpose of Adobe Basket is to simplify and enhance the user experience when working with Adobe's creative cloud services. Currently, users face the challenge of managing their files across multiple apps, each with its own cloud-based system, which can be confusing and time-consuming. Adobe Basket consolidates this into one easy-to-use platform, helping users access all their files without jumping between different programs.

The project was born from a need to make the file management process more efficient and user-friendly. By introducing Adobe Basket, users can focus on their creative work without being bogged down by the complexities of navigating through different cloud systems. The solution also provides enhanced collaboration tools, making it easier for creative teams to work together on projects.

Research and User Analysis

Adobe Creative Cloud Exploration.

The project began with an extensive user research phase, where I interviewed Adobe creative cloud users to understand their pain points. One of the main issues identified was the confusion caused by having cloud storage integrated into every single app. Users frequently mentioned the lack of a centralized system where they could manage their files across all Adobe programs.

Cloud Services - An Exploration.

To further validate these findings, I conducted secondary research into the file management features offered by Adobe’s competitors, such as Google Drive and Dropbox. The research confirmed that users valued simplicity and organization when dealing with cloud-based services, and there was a clear opportunity for Adobe to streamline its file-sharing and collaboration processes.

Ideation and Concept Development

Subscription-Based Model - An Exploration.

Perpetual Software License - An Exploration.

With the research findings in hand, I began brainstorming potential solutions. The idea of creating a dedicated cloud management app came from user feedback that expressed the need for a single platform to organize all creative files. I used mind mapping techniques to explore different features that could be integrated into the app, such as file categorization, easy file search, and real-time collaboration.

I also explored potential design layouts through wireframing, focusing on creating a user-friendly interface that would be intuitive for both individual users and teams. The concept of drag-and-drop functionality was introduced to make file management as seamless as possible.

Prototyping and Design

After the conceptual phase, I created a high-fidelity prototype of Adobe Basket. The design featured a clean and minimalistic interface, with all Adobe programs listed on the side panel and user files displayed in a grid layout. The drag-and-drop feature was a key focus of the design, allowing users to move their files easily between projects or folders.

Prototyping.

The interface also included a search bar for finding specific files, a file organization system that allowed users to sort by date or project type, and collaboration options for inviting team members to view or edit files. Each file icon was visually linked to the respective Adobe program, making it easy to recognize and manage files across the platform.

Final Prototype and Future Directions

The final prototype of Adobe Basket successfully integrated all the necessary features for efficient file management, organization, and collaboration. The app was designed to complement the existing Adobe Creative Cloud suite, offering users a simplified experience without sacrificing any functionality.

The Prototype.

In terms of future directions, Adobe Basket could expand to offer more advanced features, such as AI-powered file organization, deeper integration with Adobe’s other tools, and more personalized user settings. The long-term vision for Adobe Basket is to make it an essential tool for every creative professional using Adobe’s products.
